Awaas Plus 2024 Survey: New Eligibility Rules, Self-Survey and Status Check

The 2024 rules quietly made many families eligible who were rejected earlier. If you were told 'you have a bike, so no house', that reason no longer applies. Here are the exact rules from the Ministry, in plain language.

Exclusion criteria quoted from the Ministry of Rural Development's Lok Sabha reply published by PIB on 3 December 2024; app features from PIB, 18 March 2025, and the AwaasPlus2024 page on pmayg.dord.gov.in. Survey windows are set state by state — confirm at your panchayat.

What changed: Survey dates differ by state and some states have closed their round. Being surveyed is not the same as being approved — the list still goes through Gram Sabha verification.

What is it?

Awaas+ 2024 is the official mobile app used to find rural families who still need a pucca house. It was launched on 17 September 2024 for the new phase of PMAY-G, under which the Cabinet approved 2 crore more houses from 2024-25 to 2028-29. The survey records the family, the condition of the current house, geo-tagged photos and Aadhaar-based face authentication. A self-survey option lets eligible households enter their own details, and pre-registered surveyors do assisted surveys.

Benefits

Families left out of SECC 2011 and the 2018 Awaas+ list get a fresh chance. Because the old 'two-wheeler / fridge / landline' exclusions were deleted and the income limit was raised from ₹10,000 to ₹15,000 a month, many working households now qualify.

Practical example: Mohan, a daily-wage worker in a mud house, owns a second-hand motorcycle and earns about ₹12,000 a month. Under the old rules the bike excluded him. Under the 2024 rules it doesn't, and his income is below ₹15,000, so he can be surveyed. His brother, whose wife is a government school cook on a regular government post, would be excluded because a household member is a government employee.

Eligibility criteria

  • ✓Step 1 — houseless, or living in a house with kutcha wall and kutcha roof and not more than 2 rooms
  • ✓Excluded if the household has a motorised three/four-wheeler or mechanised three/four-wheeler farm equipment
  • ✓Excluded if there is a Kisan Credit Card with limit of ₹50,000 or more
  • ✓Excluded if any member is a government employee, or the household runs a government-registered non-farm enterprise
  • ✓Excluded if any member earns more than ₹15,000 a month, or pays income tax or professional tax
  • ✓Excluded if the household owns 2.5 acres or more irrigated land, or 5 acres or more unirrigated land

Documents required

  • ✓Aadhaar of the head of household (face authentication is done in the app)
  • ✓Bank or post-office account details
  • ✓MGNREGA job card number, if any
  • ✓Clear daytime photos of the current house and the proposed construction site

How to apply — step by step

  1. Ask your Gram Panchayat whether the Awaas+ 2024 survey window is open in your state
  2. Install the official Awaas+ 2024 app from Google Play or the link on pmayg.dord.gov.in/infoapp.html, plus the AadhaarFaceRD app
  3. Choose Self Survey (or wait for the registered surveyor) and complete face authentication with Aadhaar
  4. Fill family details, current house condition and upload geo-tagged photos from the actual spot
  5. Submit and keep the screenshot / acknowledgement
  6. Later, check the AwaasPlus 2024 survey reports on report.pmayg.dord.gov.in by State → District → Block → Panchayat
  7. Attend the Gram Sabha where the list is verified; raise an objection there if your name is missing

Important dates

The overall phase runs to March 2029, but each state runs its own survey window. Many states surveyed through 2025; check with the panchayat or block before assuming the survey is still open.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • ✓Uploading old photos or photos of a different house — geo-tags and AI checks flag these
  • ✓Paying an agent to 'add your name' — the survey is free and no one can guarantee approval
  • ✓Hiding a household member's government job or income; the record can be cancelled later
  • ✓Downloading lookalike apps — use only the Play Store link listed on pmayg.dord.gov.in

Frequently asked questions

Does owning a bike make me ineligible now?

No. Under the revised criteria approved in 2024, mechanised two-wheelers, landline phone and refrigerator were removed from the exclusion list.

What is the income limit?

A household is excluded if any member earns more than ₹15,000 per month. The earlier limit was ₹10,000.

I completed the self-survey. Am I approved?

Not yet. Survey data is checked, verified by the Gram Sabha and passes an appeal window before the final list is made.

Where can I see survey status?

Use the AwaasPlus 2024 survey reports on report.pmayg.dord.gov.in, or ask the panchayat secretary, who can see your entry in the system.
