MGNREGA Payment Status 2026: Check Job Card Wages, Muster Roll and Delays

Every MGNREGA job card has a public record of work days and wage payments on nrega.nic.in. You can open your panchayat's report, click your job card, and see each muster roll, the days worked and whether the wage was credited. By law, wages should be paid within 15 days of the muster roll closing; for later payments workers are entitled to delay compensation.

What changed: Many PMAY-G families also get MGNREGA wages for building their own house. Readers told us they could see the house instalment but not the labour wages — this guide shows exactly where those wages appear.

What is it?

The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act gives every rural household that asks for it up to 100 days of unskilled manual work in a financial year. Work is recorded on a muster roll (attendance sheet) for each work site. After the muster roll closes, the measurement is entered, a wage list is generated and a Fund Transfer Order (FTO) sends the money to the worker's account. Each of these steps is visible publicly.

Benefits

Checking the record yourself protects you from three common problems: days not entered, wages credited to the wrong account, and payments stuck at the FTO stage. It also gives you proof for a complaint. Because the data is public, you do not need a login or password.

Practical example: Rekha worked 12 days on a pond-deepening work in August. Three weeks later nothing had arrived. She opened her panchayat's job-card list on nrega.nic.in, clicked her card and saw the muster roll with 12 days, but the payment column showed the FTO was “rejected” because of an old bank account. She gave her current passbook copy to the Gram Rozgar Sahayak; the corrected payment was sent in the next cycle. (Illustrative example.)

Eligibility criteria

  • ✓Any adult member of a rural household willing to do unskilled manual work can apply for a job card
  • ✓The job card is issued free of cost by the Gram Panchayat
  • ✓Work must be demanded (orally or in writing); you should get a dated receipt
  • ✓If work is not given within 15 days of demand, the Act provides for an unemployment allowance, paid by the State
  • ✓Wages go only to an account in the worker's own name

Documents required

  • ✓MGNREGA job card number
  • ✓Bank or post-office passbook
  • ✓Aadhaar (for account seeding, as applicable)
  • ✓Dated receipt of work demand, if you have one
  • ✓Muster roll number or work name, if known

How to apply — step by step

  1. Open nrega.nic.in and choose Gram Panchayats → Generate Reports (Quick Access → Panchayat GP/PS/ZP Login is only for officials)
  2. Select your State, then the financial year, district, block and Gram Panchayat, and click Proceed
  3. Under Job Card / Employment Register, open the job card list and click your job card number
  4. Your card shows each work, the muster roll number, the days you worked and the wages
  5. Click the muster roll number to see the credited amount and account details for each worker
  6. If wages show “rejected” or are missing after 15 days, give a written complaint with these details to the Gram Rozgar Sahayak or Programme Officer at the block, and keep a received copy

Important dates

Wages are due within 15 days of the muster roll closing. Delay compensation is 0.05% of the unpaid wages for each day of delay beyond that. The State notifies the daily wage rate each financial year.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • ✓Checking only the bank and not the muster roll — if days are not entered, no wage will ever be generated
  • ✓Not keeping the receipt of work demand
  • ✓Letting someone else hold your job card or passbook
  • ✓Ignoring a “rejected” FTO — it will not fix itself
