Aadhaar Update Online 2026: Address, Name, DOB — What You Can Do Online and Limits

On myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in you can update your address and upload identity/address documents yourself using OTP on your registered mobile. Changes to name, gender, date of birth and mobile number, and all biometric updates, need a visit to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or enrolment centre. UIDAI limits name changes to twice and gender and date-of-birth changes to once in a lifetime, so check every spelling before you submit.

Checked on 13 October 2026 against the myAadhaar portal and UIDAI's official website. UIDAI has run free online document-update windows for limited periods and revises centre fees from time to time; always read the current fee shown on uidai.gov.in before paying.

What changed: Readers repeatedly hit scheme failures — ration eKYC, PM-KISAN, PMAY-G payments — because Aadhaar details did not match the bank or list. This guide covers the update itself and the limits that catch people out.

What is it?

Aadhaar holds demographic data (name, address, date of birth, gender, mobile, email) and biometric data (photo, fingerprints, iris). Many government payments check this data, so a mismatch with your bank, ration card or scheme record can stop a benefit. Updates go through UIDAI only — no private app or agent can change Aadhaar data.

Benefits

Correct Aadhaar details let OTP, eKYC and DBT payments go through without rejection. Updating documents also keeps your Aadhaar verifiable; UIDAI encourages people who enrolled long ago and never updated to refresh their proof of identity and address.

Practical example: Kavita married and moved to her husband's village. Her PMAY-G payment kept failing because the bank had her new address but Aadhaar still showed the old one. She logged into myAadhaar with OTP, chose Address Update, uploaded her husband's Aadhaar as head-of-family proof along with consent, tracked the SRN and downloaded the updated e-Aadhaar after approval. (Illustrative example.)

Who is affected

  • ✓Any Aadhaar holder can request an update
  • ✓Online update needs a mobile number already registered with Aadhaar
  • ✓Documents must be from UIDAI's list of acceptable proofs of identity and address
  • ✓Children's biometrics must be updated at ages 5 and 15 (mandatory biometric update)

What to check

  • ✓Aadhaar number
  • ✓Registered mobile for OTP
  • ✓Proof of address (e.g. passbook, utility bill, rent agreement, ration card)
  • ✓Proof of identity for document update
  • ✓For name/DOB: supporting certificate such as birth certificate, marriage certificate or gazette notification

What to do next

  1. Go to myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in and log in with Aadhaar number and OTP
  2. Choose Address Update or Document Update
  3. Enter the new details exactly as in your document and upload a clear scan (PDF/JPG within the size shown)
  4. Pay the fee shown on screen, if any, and note the SRN/URN
  5. Track status under Check Enrolment & Update Status; download the updated e-Aadhaar when approved
  6. For name, DOB, gender, mobile or biometrics, book an appointment at an Aadhaar Seva Kendra or visit an enrolment centre with originals

Important dates

Updates can be requested any time. Processing usually takes some days and can take longer if documents are unclear. Free online document-update windows, when offered, have end dates announced by UIDAI.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • ✓Using up a lifetime change limit with a spelling mistake
  • ✓Uploading blurred or cropped documents, which leads to rejection
  • ✓Paying a third-party website — use only uidai.gov.in domains
  • ✓Forgetting to update the bank, ration and scheme records after Aadhaar changes
