Voter ID Correction Online 2026: Form 8 for Name, Age, Photo & Address (Step-by-Step)
A spelling mistake in your name, a wrong age or an old photo on the voter ID card can create trouble when you use it as identity proof or at the polling booth. The Election Commission lets you fix all of this online, for free, using Form 8 on the Voters' Service Portal (voters.eci.gov.in) or the Voter Helpline app. The same Form 8 is also used when you shift your home, need a replacement card, or want to be marked as a person with disability. After a Booth Level Officer (BLO) verifies the change, the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) approves it and a corrected EPIC card is sent to you. You can also download the e-EPIC.

Form 8 and its four uses follow the Election Commission's Voters' Service Portal as reviewed on 29 Oct 2026. Processing time is not fixed nationally and slows down near elections and during special summary revision. Form 6 (new voter) and Form 7 (deletion) are different forms.

What is it?
Every voter has an EPIC (Electors Photo Identity Card) number and an entry in the electoral roll of their constituency. The card is only a copy of that entry. So if the card is wrong, what you are really correcting is the roll entry — and that needs Form 8. Form 8 has four options: shifting of residence (within the same constituency or to another one), correction of entries, issue of a replacement EPIC without correction (lost or damaged card), and request for marking as a person with disability. You choose one option per application. If you have moved to a new city, use the shifting option; do not apply for a new card with Form 6, because having two entries in the roll is not allowed.
Benefits
A correct voter card is accepted as identity and address proof in many places — bank KYC, SIM cards, some scheme applications and as one of the photo IDs at the polling booth. Matching details across Aadhaar, voter ID and certificates also reduce rejections in scheme applications such as ration card, PM Awas or pension, where officers compare names and ages across documents. Marking as a person with disability helps the polling team arrange facilities such as wheelchairs and priority entry.
Who is affected
- ✓You must already be a registered voter with an EPIC number
- ✓You can correct name, surname, photo, date of birth/age, relative's name, relation type, gender, address and mobile number
- ✓Only the voter (or a family member where the portal allows) should apply, with proof for the changed detail
- ✓Shifting to another constituency is done through Form 8 itself — no need to delete the old entry separately
- ✓One Form 8 option per application; submit a separate application for another option
What to check
- ✓EPIC number of the voter
- ✓Age proof for date of birth changes — birth certificate, Class 10 marksheet, Aadhaar, PAN or passport
- ✓Address proof for address changes — Aadhaar, bank passbook, recent electricity/water/gas bill, rent agreement or passport
- ✓Identity proof for name changes, such as Aadhaar or Class 10 marksheet
- ✓Recent passport-size photograph with a plain background for photo changes
What to do next
- Open voters.eci.gov.in (or the Voter Helpline app) and log in with your mobile number and OTP
- Click 'Fill Form 8' and choose whether the application is for yourself or a family member
- Enter your EPIC number and pick the right option — usually 'Correction of entries in existing Electoral Roll'
- Tick only the fields you want to change and type the correct details carefully
- Upload clear scans of the supporting documents and a declaration, then preview the form
- Submit and save the reference number from the screen and SMS
- Track it under 'Track Application Status'; once accepted, download the e-EPIC and wait for the new card by post
Important dates
You can apply all year. Applications filed close to an election may be processed only after the roll is frozen for that election, so apply early if you want the change before voting day. During the annual special summary revision the Election Commission also runs claim-and-objection periods, which are announced by your state's Chief Electoral Officer.
Common mistakes to avoid
- ✓Using Form 6 for a new card after moving, which creates a duplicate entry
- ✓Uploading a blurred or cropped document so the BLO cannot verify it
- ✓Ticking extra fields by mistake and changing details that were correct
- ✓Name in Hindi and English not matching each other
- ✓Not answering the BLO's call or visit, which can lead to rejection
