PM Kisan Installment Not Received? e-KYC, Land Seeding & Status Check Explained

Most PM Kisan payments fail because of pending e-KYC, unverified land records, a name mismatch or an unlinked bank account — not because the farmer is ineligible. Here is how to find the exact reason and fix it.

What is it?

PM Kisan Samman Nidhi pays ₹6,000 a year to eligible landholding farmer families in three instalments of ₹2,000, sent directly to the bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer. Each release cycle the government runs automated checks before the money moves: Aadhaar-based e-KYC must be complete, the land record must be digitally verified (land seeding), the bank account must be Aadhaar-seeded with NPCI, and the name on Aadhaar, land record and bank account must match. If even one check fails, the payment is held for that farmer while others in the same village receive the money — which is why a neighbour may get credited and you may not.

Benefits

₹6,000 per year in three equal instalments of ₹2,000, credited directly to the bank account with no middleman and no processing fee. A verified PM Kisan record also makes it easier to get a Kisan Credit Card, crop insurance enrolment and several state farmer schemes, because most states reuse the same verified farmer database. Holding a clean status also means future instalments release automatically without any fresh application.

Eligibility criteria

  • The family must own cultivable agricultural land recorded in the applicant's name in the state land records
  • A family means husband, wife and minor children — only one member of the family gets the benefit
  • Aadhaar-based e-KYC must be completed and kept valid for every release cycle
  • The bank account must be linked with Aadhaar and NPCI-mapped for Direct Benefit Transfer
  • Institutional landholders, and families where any member is or was a constitutional post holder, are excluded
  • Serving or retired government employees (except Class IV / Group D staff) and pensioners drawing ₹10,000 or more a month are excluded
  • Income tax payers in the last assessment year, and professionals such as doctors, engineers, lawyers and chartered accountants in practice, are excluded

Documents required

  • Aadhaar card with an active mobile number linked for OTP
  • Land ownership record (khatauni, khasra, RoR or 7/12 extract) showing the applicant's name
  • Bank passbook or cancelled cheque with IFSC, in the same name as Aadhaar
  • Registration number or the registered mobile number to look up beneficiary status
  • Citizenship and category details as recorded during registration

How to apply — step by step

  1. Open the official PM Kisan portal and select the Beneficiary Status option under the Farmers Corner
  2. Enter the registration number or the registered mobile number and view the payment history screen
  3. Read the status flags carefully — e-KYC, Land Seeding and Aadhaar Bank Account Seeding each show Yes or No
  4. If e-KYC shows No, complete OTP-based e-KYC on the portal, or face authentication through the official mobile app, or biometric e-KYC at a Common Service Centre
  5. If Land Seeding shows No, visit the village revenue officer or tehsil office with the land record and get the record mapped to your registration
  6. If Aadhaar Bank Seeding shows No, visit the bank branch and request NPCI Aadhaar seeding of the account, not just Aadhaar KYC
  7. Fix any spelling mismatch between Aadhaar, land record and bank account through the correction option on the portal
  8. Recheck the status after a few days — once all flags read Yes, the pending instalment is released in the next payment cycle

Important dates

Instalments are released roughly every four months, so the practical deadline is the cut-off date for the upcoming cycle rather than a fixed calendar date. Corrections submitted before a cycle closes are usually reflected in that release; corrections made after the cut-off shift the payment to the following instalment. Held amounts are generally not forfeited — once verification is complete, the pending instalment is usually released along with the current one, but this depends on state-level verification, so always confirm on the official portal.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Assuming the money will come automatically without checking the three status flags on the portal
  • Completing Aadhaar KYC at the bank and believing it is the same as NPCI Aadhaar seeding — they are different steps
  • Paying an agent for e-KYC, which is free on the portal and low-cost at an authorised Common Service Centre
  • Registering land that stands in a parent's name without mutation, which fails land seeding verification
  • Giving a bank account in a spouse's name when the registration is in the farmer's own name
  • Two members of the same family registering separately, which leads to recovery of the extra amount
  • Entering details on look-alike websites that ask for a fee — the official portal never charges for status checks

Frequently asked questions

Why did my neighbour get the instalment and I did not?

Payments are released farmer by farmer after automated checks. If your e-KYC, land seeding or Aadhaar bank seeding is pending, your payment is held while verified farmers in the same village are paid.

Is e-KYC needed every time?

e-KYC must be valid at the time of release. Many farmers complete it once and never need it again, but if the portal shows the flag as No before a cycle, repeat it.

Will I lose the held instalments?

Usually not. Once verification is completed the held instalment is generally released in a later cycle, though the final decision rests with the state verification authority.

Can a tenant farmer get PM Kisan?

No. The scheme covers landholding farmer families. A tenant or sharecropper without land recorded in their name is not eligible under the central rules.

How do I change my bank account?

Use the correction option on the official portal or apply through the village-level operator. The new account must be Aadhaar-seeded with NPCI for the payment to succeed.
