What is it?

Lakhpati Didi is a national mission run through the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana National Rural Livelihoods Mission. It works with women who are already members of self-help groups and helps each of them build a sustainable annual household income of at least one lakh rupees. Rather than a one-time cash transfer, the support comes as skill training, business planning, market linkage and access to low-cost group credit, with technologies such as drone operation, LED assembly, dairy and food processing introduced through village organisations.

Benefits

Skill and enterprise training delivered through the village organisation and cluster federation at no cost to the member. Access to a revolving fund and community investment fund through the SHG, plus bank linkage at concessional rates. Handholding on business plans, pricing, bookkeeping and market access rather than just finance. Support for diversified livelihoods such as dairy, poultry, tailoring, food processing, retail and agri-services. Recognition and priority in other rural livelihood programmes once a member reaches the income milestone.

Eligibility criteria

  • The applicant must be a woman from a rural household, generally aged 18 years or above
  • She must be an active member of a self-help group affiliated to the National Rural Livelihoods Mission
  • The SHG should have a record of regular savings, internal lending and repayment discipline
  • Priority goes to households with an existing annual income below the one lakh target
  • The member must be willing to take up skill training and run or expand a livelihood activity
  • Preference is given to members from marginalised and low-income households identified by the village organisation
  • Women who are not yet in an SHG must first join or form one through the village organisation before being covered

Documents required

  • Aadhaar card of the woman member
  • SHG membership record and the group's passbook
  • Bank account passbook in the member's name, seeded with Aadhaar
  • Proof of residence such as a ration card or voter identity card
  • Existing livelihood or business details, if the activity is already running
  • Caste or category certificate, if the village organisation requests it for prioritisation

How to apply — step by step

  1. If you are not already an SHG member, contact the village organisation or community resource person and join a group
  2. Maintain regular savings and repayment in the group, since selection considers group discipline
  3. Tell the village organisation you want to be considered under the Lakhpati Didi mission
  4. Work with the community resource person to prepare a micro business plan with costs and expected income
  5. Attend the skill and enterprise training arranged for the selected activity
  6. Apply through the SHG for the revolving fund, community investment fund or bank linkage loan
  7. Start or expand the enterprise and keep simple records of sales and expenses
  8. Report income progress through the group so your household is tracked towards the one lakh milestone

Important dates

There is no single national application deadline. Selection happens continuously at the village organisation and cluster federation level as training batches and credit cycles are planned. Practically, the time to act is when your block announces a new training batch or a credit linkage cycle, so staying in contact with your community resource person matters more than any fixed date.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Waiting for an individual online form — the mission works through the SHG, not through direct individual applications
  • Paying a middleman who promises selection, when the entire process runs free through the village organisation
  • Irregular savings or missed repayments in the group, which weaken the member's case at selection
  • Choosing a livelihood activity with no local demand instead of discussing options with the community resource person
  • Using the loan for household expenses rather than the planned enterprise, which blocks the next credit cycle
  • Keeping no record of sales and costs, which makes it impossible to show progress towards the income target

Frequently asked questions

Is Lakhpati Didi a cash transfer scheme?

No. It does not give a one-time cash payment. It provides skill training, enterprise support and access to low-cost group credit so the household income rises to at least one lakh rupees a year.

Can I apply individually online?

There is no direct individual application. Women are covered through their self-help group and the village organisation, which identifies and supports members.

What if there is no SHG in my village?

Contact the community resource person or the block livelihoods office. New groups are formed regularly, and joining one is the first step to being covered.

Is there any fee for the training?

No. Training and handholding under the mission are provided free through the village organisation and cluster federation.

What kind of businesses are supported?

Common activities include dairy, poultry, tailoring, food processing, retail shops, agri-services and newer options such as drone-based agricultural services, chosen according to local demand.

Does urban SHG membership qualify?

The mission is anchored in the rural livelihoods programme. Urban women are supported through the corresponding urban livelihoods mission instead.
