What is it?

Biometric Aadhaar Authentication, or BAA, confirms that the person using a subsidised domestic LPG connection is the genuine consumer. It applies across public-sector oil companies. This is not a new gas connection and it does not require paying a private agent. The official release says 27.43 crore consumers, or 89.9%, had already completed authentication by 19 September 2026.

Benefits

After successful authentication, an eligible domestic consumer can continue booking refills at the regulated retail price with the applicable subsidy. Authentication can be completed during delivery, at the LPG distributor, or from home through the official oil-company app.

Practical example: If an Indane consumer has not completed BAA, she may use IndianOil ONE, ask the delivery person to authenticate at the next delivery, or visit her registered distributor. She needs only one successful method—not all three.

Eligibility criteria

  • ✓The action concerns domestic LPG consumers using regulated-price or subsidised refills
  • ✓Consumers whose biometric Aadhaar authentication is already complete do not need to do it again
  • ✓The LPG connection and Aadhaar details must identify the same consumer
  • ✓PMUY and PAHAL beneficiaries should confirm their authentication status through their oil company
  • ✓A consumer unable or unwilling to complete BAA can still receive LPG, but the official release explains different pricing treatment

Documents required

  • ✓Aadhaar number/card of the registered LPG consumer
  • ✓Registered LPG consumer number or connection details
  • ✓Mobile phone used with the official oil-company app, for self-authentication
  • ✓The registered consumer's presence for face or biometric verification

How to apply — step by step

  1. First confirm whether authentication is already complete in your distributor or official app record
  2. For Indane use IndianOil ONE; for Bharatgas use HelloBPCL; for HP Gas use HP PAY
  3. Alternatively, ask the delivery person to complete authentication during cylinder delivery
  4. Or visit the showroom of your registered LPG distributor with Aadhaar and consumer details
  5. Check the success acknowledgement before leaving or closing the app
  6. If authentication fails, ask the distributor to verify the name, consumer number and Aadhaar mapping rather than paying an agent

Important dates

The official PIB release states that the change takes effect on 1 October 2026. Complete authentication before then if your record is pending. An already authenticated consumer does not need to repeat the process.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • ✓Downloading an unofficial APK instead of IndianOil ONE, HelloBPCL or HP PAY
  • ✓Assuming Aadhaar-bank linking automatically means LPG biometric authentication is complete
  • ✓Trying all three oil-company apps instead of the app for your own LPG provider
  • ✓Sharing an OTP, Aadhaar copy or payment with someone promising instant activation

Frequently asked questions

Do I need LPG e-KYC again if it is already complete?

No. The 19 September government release says consumers who already completed biometric authentication need not do anything again.

Can LPG authentication be done from home?

Yes. Use the official app for your provider: IndianOil ONE, HelloBPCL or HP PAY.

Can it be done without a smartphone?

Yes. Complete it with the delivery person or at your registered distributor's showroom.

Will the LPG connection be permanently closed after 1 October?

The release does not say the connection is permanently closed. It explains that regulated-price/subsidy booking is enabled after authentication; consumers can still receive LPG under the stated alternative pricing treatment.
