The Kisan Credit Card gives farmers timely and affordable short-term credit for crop production, post-harvest expenses, farm maintenance and allied activities like dairy, poultry and fisheries. It works like a revolving credit line — you draw what you need, repay after harvest, and interest is charged only on the amount used.
Benefits
Short-term crop loan at a subsidised effective interest rate when repaid on time, a revolving limit valid for five years with annual review, no collateral for smaller limits, built-in crop insurance linkage, an ATM-cum-debit RuPay card for withdrawals, and coverage for allied activities such as dairy and fisheries.

How to apply — step by step
- Choose a bank where you hold or can open an account, or use the PM Kisan portal KCC link
- Download or collect the one-page KCC application form
- Fill in land details, crop pattern and the credit limit sought
- Attach land records, identity proof and photographs
- Submit at the branch; banks are expected to decide within a fixed service window
- On sanction, collect the RuPay KCC card and activate the PIN
- Renew or review the limit every year and repay before the due date to keep the interest benefit
Important dates
There is no fixed application deadline — KCC applications are accepted throughout the year. However, apply well before the sowing season so the limit is sanctioned in time, and always repay within the due date of each crop cycle to retain the prompt-repayment interest benefit.
Common mistakes to avoid
- ✓Applying without updated land records, which is the top reason for delays
- ✓Using KCC funds for non-agricultural purposes, which can cancel interest benefits
- ✓Missing the repayment due date and losing the prompt repayment incentive
- ✓Tenant farmers applying without any certified proof of cultivation
- ✓Not renewing the limit annually, which freezes the card
Frequently asked questions
Who is eligible for a Kisan Credit Card?
Owner-cultivators, tenant farmers, sharecroppers, SHG and JLG members, and those in dairy, poultry and fisheries activities are eligible, subject to age and documentation rules.
Is collateral required for KCC?
Smaller limits are given without collateral under RBI norms. Higher limits may require security such as a charge on land.
Can tenant farmers get KCC?
Yes, if they can provide a tenancy agreement or a certificate of cultivation accepted by the bank.
How long is a KCC valid?
The card is normally valid for five years with an annual review of the sanctioned limit.
What happens if I repay late?
You lose the prompt repayment interest benefit and the loan attracts the normal, higher interest rate for the period.
