Benefits and contribution range are from the September 2026 PIB review. Land and exclusion records are checked during enrolment, so being a PM-KISAN beneficiary alone does not guarantee PM-KMY acceptance.

What changed: PIB reported 24.96 lakh enrolments as of February 2026. This is a pension scheme, not a new PM-KISAN instalment.

What is it?

Pradhan Mantri Kisan Maandhan Yojana was launched in September 2019 to provide old-age security to eligible small and marginal farmers. The subscriber contributes until age 60, and the Central Government contributes the same amount. LIC manages the pension fund.

Benefits

After age 60, an eligible subscriber receives a minimum assured ₹3,000 monthly pension. If the pensioner dies, the spouse can receive 50% as family pension subject to scheme rules. Before maturity, spouse continuation or exit provisions apply in specified cases.

Practical example: A 29-year-old eligible small farmer will have a contribution fixed by the official age chart; it stays linked to the joining age. If the chart assigns ₹100, the government contributes another ₹100 monthly. The exact amount must be checked during Maandhan/CSC enrolment rather than guessed.

Eligibility criteria

  • ✓Small and marginal farmer aged 18 to 40 at entry
  • ✓Eligible landholding recorded in the relevant State/UT land records
  • ✓Must not fall under the scheme's higher economic-status exclusions
  • ✓Must not be covered by disqualifying statutory social-security/pension categories listed in current guidelines

Documents required

  • ✓Aadhaar card and Aadhaar-linked mobile
  • ✓Savings bank account/passbook and IFSC for auto-debit
  • ✓Land record or farmer details required for eligibility validation
  • ✓PM-KISAN registration details, if choosing contribution from PM-KISAN benefits

How to apply — step by step

  1. Check the current eligibility and exclusions on maandhan.in or at a CSC
  2. Visit a Common Service Centre with Aadhaar and bank passbook, or use available self-enrolment
  3. Confirm personal, land and nominee/spouse details
  4. Authorise monthly auto-debit for the contribution fixed by your entry age
  5. Collect the pension card/acknowledgement and maintain sufficient bank balance

Important dates

PM-KMY is an ongoing scheme; no universal closing date is announced. Eligibility is based on your age on the joining date, so a person who has crossed 40 cannot newly enrol.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • ✓Confusing PM-KMY pension with PM-KISAN income-support instalments
  • ✓Assuming ₹55 applies at every age; contribution rises with joining age
  • ✓Ignoring exclusion checks because the person receives PM-KISAN
  • ✓Paying an agent for guaranteed approval instead of using CSC/Maandhan
