What is it?

PM-KISAN is a Central Sector scheme that gives eligible farmer families ₹6,000 per year in three equal installments of ₹2,000, paid directly into Aadhaar-seeded bank accounts. Installments follow three cycles: April–July, August–November and December–March. The 23rd installment covered the April–July 2026-27 cycle, in which about 9.44 crore farmers were benefited according to the portal's period-wise figures.

Benefits

The money arrives without any middleman through Direct Benefit Transfer. Farmers who complete eKYC, keep land records seeded and hold an Aadhaar-linked bank account continue to receive each installment automatically — there is no need to apply again for every payment.

Practical example: Ramesh, a farmer in Vidarbha, did not receive the 23rd installment. On Know Your Status he saw 'eKYC: No'. He completed biometric eKYC at his nearest CSC for a small official fee, and his record showed 'eKYC: Yes' within days, making him eligible for the next cycle.

Eligibility criteria

  • ✓Farmer families with cultivable land in their name as per state land records
  • ✓Land ownership records seeded and verified on the PM-KISAN portal
  • ✓eKYC completed — biometric at CSC, OTP via the PM-KISAN app, or through state-authorised login
  • ✓Bank account linked with Aadhaar and enabled for DBT
  • ✓Not in the exclusion list: income-tax payers, institutional landholders, serving/retired officers and professionals, among others

Documents required

  • ✓Aadhaar card of the registered farmer
  • ✓Bank passbook of the Aadhaar-seeded account
  • ✓Land ownership record (khata/khatauni) as entered at registration
  • ✓Registered mobile number for OTP-based checks

How to apply — step by step

  1. Open pmkisan.gov.in and click 'Know Your Status' under Farmers Corner
  2. Enter your registration number or mobile number and the captcha
  3. Read each line: eKYC status, land seeding, Aadhaar-bank seeding and installment-wise payment
  4. If eKYC shows pending, complete it at a CSC (biometric) or on the PM-KISAN mobile app (OTP/face)
  5. If land seeding shows 'No', contact your district agriculture office or lekhpal/patwari to correct records
  6. If everything shows 'Yes' but payment is missing, check the PFMS response on the portal and raise a grievance through Kisan eMitra or the helpline 155261

Important dates

Installments follow fixed cycles: April–July, August–November and December–March. The 23rd installment (April–July 2026-27 cycle) was released on 20 June 2026. The next installment falls in the August–November 2026 cycle; the portal announces the exact date. There is no last date to fix eKYC, but pending cases only get paid after correction.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • ✓Assuming the installment is 'cancelled' when the record simply shows eKYC or land seeding pending
  • ✓Paying an agent who promises to 'release' a stopped installment — corrections are done only through official channels
  • ✓Ignoring the portal's exclusion warning when two family members receive benefits on the same landholding
  • ✓Changing bank accounts without updating Aadhaar seeding, which breaks DBT
