PM Vishwakarma is a central scheme for traditional artisans and craftspeople who work with their hands and tools. It recognises 18 trades — from carpenter and blacksmith to tailor, potter, barber and boat maker — and supports them with skill training, a toolkit grant, collateral-free credit and digital transaction incentives.
Benefits
Recognition through a PM Vishwakarma certificate and ID card, basic and advanced skill training with a daily stipend, a toolkit grant, collateral-free enterprise loan in two tranches at a concessional interest rate, incentive per digital transaction, and marketing support for selling products online and at exhibitions.
Eligibility criteria
- ✓Artisan or craftsperson working with hands and tools in one of the 18 notified trades
- ✓Minimum age 18 years on the date of registration
- ✓Engaged in the trade currently and in an unorganised, self-employed capacity
- ✓Must not have taken a similar credit-based government loan (PMEGP, PM SVANidhi, Mudra) in the last 5 years
- ✓Only one member per family can register, where family means husband, wife and unmarried children
- ✓Family members in government service are not eligible
- ✓Registration must be done as an individual, not as a company or firm
Documents required
- ✓Aadhaar card with linked mobile number
- ✓Ration card (or Aadhaar of all family members if no ration card)
- ✓Bank account details and passbook
- ✓Trade or occupation details for verification
- ✓Caste or category certificate where the state asks for it
- ✓Recent photograph taken during CSC biometric verification
How to apply — step by step
- Visit the nearest Common Service Centre (CSC) — registration is done only through CSC, not self-service
- Complete mobile and Aadhaar biometric e-KYC at the centre
- Fill the artisan registration form with trade details and bank account
- Application goes through three-stage verification: Gram Panchayat / ULB, District Implementation Committee, then Screening Committee
- On approval, download the digital ID card and PM Vishwakarma certificate
- Complete basic skill training to unlock the toolkit e-voucher
- Apply for the first loan tranche through the enrolled bank after training
Important dates
Registration is open throughout the scheme period with no annual last date, but toolkit vouchers and loan tranches are released batch-wise after verification and training slots. Delays usually come from the three-stage verification queue rather than a closing date.
Common mistakes to avoid
- ✓Trying to register online alone — biometric verification at a CSC is mandatory
- ✓Registering two people from the same family, which cancels one application
- ✓Claiming a trade that is not in the notified list of 18
- ✓Skipping basic training and then wondering why the toolkit voucher never arrives
- ✓Mobile number not linked with Aadhaar, so e-KYC fails at the centre
