What is it?
Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana is a maternity benefit under Mission Shakti for pregnant and lactating women from socially and economically disadvantaged groups. It provides partial wage compensation and encourages early pregnancy registration, antenatal care, birth registration and immunisation. PMMVY is separate from Janani Suraksha Yojana, although an eligible woman may receive applicable JSY support after institutional delivery.
Benefits
For the first living child, PMMVY pays ₹5,000 in two instalments after prescribed milestones. For the second child, a single ₹6,000 benefit applies when the second child is a girl and conditions are met. Payment is sent by DBT to the beneficiary's account.

- ✓Confusing PMMVY ₹5,000 with the separate JSY benefit
- ✓Waiting until documents and milestone records are incomplete
- ✓Giving an account that cannot receive Aadhaar-based DBT
